Lottery FAQs
Frequently asked questions about the lottery process
Do you accept the common application hosted by the NYC Charter Center?
Yes we do. Please make sure the application is submitted by the regular application deadline. If you have applied using the common app, you do not need to reapply here.
Who can apply to VOICE Charter School?
Admission to VOICE Charter School is free and open to all students in New York State. However, returning students, siblings of returning students, and students living in Community School District 30 are given preference. See our admissions homepage for more information.
How do I find out what Community School District (CSD) I live in?
You can visit the NYC Charter School Center’s School Search Page and click on “Find my CSD” on the upper left part of the page. A pop-up window will ask you to enter your address. Enter your address and then click on “Lookup.” If you have any difficulties accessing the website, please contact the Office of Family Engagement and Advocacy at (212) 374-2323 or your local Department of Education enrollment office.
The application asks for my child’s student identification number. What if I don’t know it?
Your child's Pre-Kindergarten teacher (or school) may know it. If not, no problem. Just leave that space blank.
What grades are enrolled at VOICE Charter School?
VOICE is a kindergarten through eighth grade school and accepts applications for those grades only. Next year we anticipate adding Pre-K. The enrollment lottery for the next academic year will be held in the spring, though we do accept applications for the current year as space permits. Check with our admissions office if we have an immediate opening in your child’s grade.
What are the deadlines and important dates?
All applications are due to us by April of the previous school year for which you are applying. An electronic lottery will be held and you do not need to be present. After the lottery our admissions teams will start notifying families to come in to register based on their lottery ranking and available number of openings in each grade. Initial registration begins in late April and continues through the end of June.
Do you host open house events?
We will hold both virtual and in-person open houses between late January and the end of March. Please click here for more information.
Why can’t we call the school or come into the office when we have questions about admissions?
Last year we received over 1000 inquiries and more than 1200 applications, and the first responsibility of our school staff is the safety and education of our currently enrolled students. So that we can provide you with accurate information for you to make the best decision about your child's education, we have hired specially trained staff to follow up on your inquiries.
I have a lot more questions. How do I get my questions answered?
