Letter from the Principal
Dear VOICE Students, Families, & Community Members,
Thank you for exploring our website and landing upon my letter - whether you are a returning family in search of some resources, a prospective family looking to acquire additional information on our school, or a random Google search that crossed your paths to stumble upon us out of sheer curiosity. I would like to greet you with a welcomed hello and introduce you to our wonderful school.
I am honored to lead a school with classrooms of students filled with continued curiosity, energy, and support for each other year after year. I co-founded VOICE Charter School in 2008 with the belief that all students are capable of achieving at high levels in all subject areas, and have been proud to see these student achievements across the years.
Our core values of Efficacy, Care, and Wonder are embedded in everything we do, which is evident as we watch our students’ growth throughout their time here. A unique factor of VOICE that has continued to excite me, as I see new students experience it in our halls for the first time, is that we make space for children to sing every day and support the whole child, family, and community.
We have always celebrated the rich diversity of our students and families, who represent over 50 countries of nationality. A prime example of this is our annual Parade of Nations event, which brings the community together to celebrate our cultures through a few of the best party indicators - food and music. VOICE has been an integral part of the Western Queens community, serving nearly 800 students in grades K-8. We actively invite and welcome in new students whenever we have space, mostly through vibrant partnerships we have developed with community-based organizations. VOICE proudly holds after school programming, as well, ranging from our musical theater program to a variety of sports teams.
VOICE is committed to providing all children who come to us with a rigorous, culturally-relevant education that prepares them for success in the top City high schools. Students from VOICE have gone on to attend Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Tech, Bronx Science, Hunter, Townsend Harris, Beacon, Band Early College, Regis, The Packer School, and many more. Each year, approximately five-to-ten percent of students attend performing arts schools, including LaGuardia, Frank Sinatra, Talent Unlimited, and the Professional Performing Arts School. Overall, we are proud to say that 100% of our students are accepted to a high school of their choice.
Every year with every new graduating class of students, I acquire a new learning and am grateful to work with our families and teachers each day. If we haven’t met yet, I hope to meet you soon! And for those returning, I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely, Franklin Headley Executive Director/Principal
